LeBron James played his first preseason game in a Philadelphia 76ers uniform on a night that mixed a careful minutes limit with a familiar stat line, as the 76ers lost 114-108 to the Brooklyn Nets.

James finished with 10 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds in 18 minutes. His scoring leaned on the foul line, where he went 8-for-8, a detail that said as much about preseason rhythm as anything: not yet attacking in volume, but still drawing contact and converting when he got there.

He started alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe, a first look at the combination Philadelphia’s season will be judged on. The starting group’s minutes together were brief by design, but the shape was visible — Embiid inside, Maxey pushing pace, and James organising possessions from the top.

James sat out the second half, a standard preseason precaution that kept the debut to a cameo. That limited the conclusions anyone could draw. There was no late-game test, no extended run with the second unit, and no answer yet to the defensive questions that will follow this roster into the regular season.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, took the result. The Nets’ 114-108 win will matter less than the minutes distribution on both sides, but preseason wins built on deeper rotations playing longer are common, and this one followed that script once Philadelphia’s starters sat.

For the 76ers, the night was about health and first impressions. Embiid moving through a start without incident, Edgecombe getting early reps with the first group, and Brown slotting in beside Maxey are the items the coaching staff will review on film. James’s perfect free-throw night and his assist count in limited minutes fit the low-risk plan.

The real examination comes when the minutes rise. Preseason debuts are introductions, not evidence, and James has made enough of them to know the difference. Philadelphia fans got their first look. The verdict, as always with a new superteam experiment, waits for games that count.
